NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

WHO ARE WE?

The Sunnyslope Neighborhood Association is one of 19 neighborhood associations recognized by the City of Salem. Everyone who lives, owns property, or has a business within these boundaries is a member.

MEETINGS

The Sunnyslope Neighborhood Association has a dedicated group of volunteer board members who meet monthly to learn about issues and projects that impact our neighborhood, and advise the City Council and other decision-makers. Everyone is welcome at all meetings, and the more neighbors that attend and voice their opinions, the better the board can represent the neighborhood.

Hi – I am a volunteer for the City of Salem CERT training program. I also live in the Sunnyslope neighborhood on Cloudview Dr. S.

I would like to post information on this site about an upcoming free class that might be of interest to all in our area. The class will provide everyone with information and skills to help themselves and their neighbors in the event of a local disaster. Right now we only have about 11 folks who have been though CERT training living in the Sunnyslope boundary area. It takes a team of at least 15 trained CERT members to cover 200 homes so we have a long way to go to get the coverage we need. If we can put together a couple of active teams the City will put together a couple of active teams the City will put an emergency supply cache that we will be able to use. Details and contact information are in the announcement below or you can contact me at my email address.

    Regards, Wayne Floyd

    DON’T DELAY: PREPARE TODAY!
    SALEM’S COMMUNITY EMERGENCY
    RESPONSE TEAMS

    Class Begins March 2

A free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
class begins Tuesday, March 2. The class runs for three
hours per night for seven consecutive Tuesday
evenings. This is an adult education class for persons
who live or work in Salem.

The CERT program helps train volunteers to assist the
community when a disastrous event overwhelms or
delays the community’s professional response. CERT
members can assist others by applying basic response
and organizational skills following a disaster until help
arrives. CERT skills also apply to daily emergencies.
Some of the skills learned in CERT training include:

-Being prepared for disasters that may affect our city
-Working as a team to apply basic fire suppression
strategies, resources, and safety measures to extinguish
    small fires
-Applying techniques for opening airways, controlling
    bleeding, and treating shock
-Identifying planning and size-up requirements for
    potential search and rescue situations
-Using safe techniques for debris removal and victim
    extrication

To register, contact Roger Stevenson, Salem
Emergency Manager by calling 503-763-3331 or

I was wondering if the sunnyslope neighborhood association endorses the idea of allowing chickens in the city of salem???

  • Hi Kelley – I checked with Alan Alexander, the chairperson, and he said: The Sunnyslope Board supported the chickens proposal last year. I think any new proposal would depend on the conditions.

  • Tanja

There is noticeably a bundle to learn about this.

I assume you made specific good points in capabilities also.
